Liu Ching-huan, Taiwan's oldest person, died of heart and lung failure on Monday in central Taiwan's Nantou County, aged 115.

In Taiwan, two women had reached the age of 115, Liu and another woman surnamed Lin in Hualien City. Lin passed away several months ago, leaving Liu as the oldest person on the island.

Liu was born in 1899 in Sichuan Province, southwestern China, and later moved to Taiwan. She converted to Buddhism after her husband died and sheltered at a Buddhist temple in 1965.

She had lived in a government-funded care center since 2010.

According to the care center, Liu, a vegetarian, had very good hearing and sight, while only suffering weakness in her legs. Endi
