Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi met with visiting U.S. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor here on Friday.

Yang said the Chinese government is committed to safeguarding and promoting peace, stability and development in the Asia-Pacific region as well as the world.

At the same time, no one can shake China's firm resolve in safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity, he added.

A sound China-U.S. relationship serves the fundamental interests of people of the two countries and the world, said Yang.

He called on the two sides to work together to seriously implement the consensus reached by both leaders and push forward bilateral relations along the right track of building a new type of major country relationship.

Cantor said the U.S. House of Representatives is willing to be a positive force in promoting mutual understanding and deepening cooperation between the two countries. Endit
