China on Monday warned Vietnam that its attempt to rope in others to put pressure on China will not succeed, urging it yet again to stop disrupting Chinese company's normal drilling work.

At a daily news briefing, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying was commenting on drilling operations in waters off Xisha Islands and Vietnam's unsuccessful attempt to draw in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to oppose China.

Xisha Islands are the inherent territory of China and there are no disputes in this issue, let alone a problem between China and ASEAN, Hua said.

"The facts are clear that Vietnam's attempt to rope in others to put pressure on China will not achieve its goal," Hua said.

"We hope Vietnam can have a clear picture in mind, calmly face the reality and stop disrupting China's operations," she added.

The drilling activities of China Oilfield Services Limited are located 17 nautical miles (some 31 kilometers) from China's Zhongjian Island, completely within the country's territorial waters, said Yi Xianliang, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of the Foreign Ministry of China, on Friday.

From May 3 to 7, Vietnam dispatched 36 vessels, including warships, into waters near the Chinese oil rig to harass drilling operations, deliberately ramming Chinese boats as many as 171 times. Endi
