A renowned Chinese actor has been detained by police after be caught having sex with a prostitute.

Beijing police said on Friday that they had placed Huang Haibo, 38, in "administrative detention" after they received a tip-off and caught Huang with the prostitute in a hotel in the capital on Thursday evening.

Huang confessed to the illegal act, the police said.

Huang is the leading actor in a number of popular TV series, including "A Beautiful Daughter-in-law Era," a comedy about a modern Chinese couple.

Prostitution is illegal in China. Earlier this year, the Ministry of Public Security demanded that the police crack down on prostitution and pornography amid the government's campaign to promote core socialist values. Endi
