China delivers 'sincere condolences' over building collapse in DPRK

China expressed "sincere condolences" to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Tuesday over the recent collapse of an apartment building in Pyongyang.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hong Lei made the comments at a daily news briefing.

"We are highly concerned after learning about the situation," Hong said, extending sincere condolences on behalf of China to those killed in the accident and their family members.

"China and the DPRK are friendly neighbors, and we believe that this accident can be properly handled under the leadership of the DPRK government," Hong said.

The DPRK's official KCNA news agency said on Sunday that an apartment in the Pyongchon District in Pyongyang collapsed on May 13, saying that improper construction and irresponsible supervision of the high-rise construction were responsible for the disaster. Enditem
