Police in charge of Urumqi International Airport in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region are being given firearms training, as China continues to stress stability in the region.

The training, initiated by the airport's public security bureau, requires all bureau police officers to take part.

The training aims to beef up security and better protect the safety of people's lives and property, a bureau spokesman said.

"The training so far has effectively improved our abilities and laid a solid foundation for maintaining order and security at in the airport," said the spokesman. Endi
