Shanghai University and Vancouver Film School (VFS) announced here Sunday that a joint film school was officially established in Shanghai.

The announcement was made on the sidelines of the ongoing Shanghai International Film Festival.

The Sino-Canadian film school will be located in Yanchang Campus of Shanghai University. It will mainly train film and TV post-production talents by importing all courses of VFS.

The school plans to enroll the first cohort of 100 Chinese and international students in autumn this year, offering four majors including film production, 3D animation and visual effects, sound design for visual media and makeup design for film and television. By 2022, it will enroll 1,000 students annually.

Nearly 80 percent of teachers in the school will come from North America. Around 60 percent will be prestigious actors and actresses across the world, including Oscar and Emmy Awards winners.

"Chinese film and TV industry personnel need to gain profound insight into the industry," said Shanghai University President Luo Hongjie, who added the VFS' teaching ideas and modes are what Chinese film talents need.

After four rounds of negotiations, Shanghai University and VFS signed an agreement to jointly establish the film school in February. Endi
