The Bahrain government on Wednesday welcomed the UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution that imposes arms embargo against Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Bahrain said the UN decision is a crucial and necessary step to restore the security and stability of Yemen and preserve the unity and integrity of its territory.

"The Kingdom of Bahrain affirms that the resolution reflects a vast international understanding of the humanitarian and security situation in Yemen and embodies a global agreement on confronting acts of violence and terrorism and underpinning the pillars of legitimacy, represented in President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi and his government," the government statement said.

"The Kingdom also emphasizes that the resolution will pave the way for the completion of the political process and allow all the sides that are keen to preserve the country's security and stability to return to the dialogue, on the basis of what has been agreed upon by Yemen, the region and the world, most importantly the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) initiative."

The Bahrain government called on all Yemeni sides and the UN member state to assume their responsibility and implement the UNSC resolution in all honesty and transparency.

The security situation deteriorated in Yemen in January when the Shiite Houthi group seized the presidential palace in Sanaa after deadly clashes with presidential guards. President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi and Prime Minister Khaled Bahah submitted resignations on Jan. 22.

On Feb. 6, the Houthi group announced a unilateral move to dissolve the parliament of Yemen and form a presidential council to take power, which was rejected by Yemen's political parties and denounced by the Gulf Arab states.

On March 26, Saudi Arabia and its Gulf allies including Bahrain launched airstrikes to flush out the Houthi militants. Endit
