A Chinese leader will attend the first annual meeting of a non-governmental branch-off of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Beijing on May 25 and 26, said the vice president of the host organization on Friday.

It is yet to be confirmed who will attend, but the leader will give an address expounding on the "Asian security concept" proposed by President Xi Jinping at the CICA summit in Shanghai last year, said Wei Wei, of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA).

Xi described a cooperative mechanism that stresses sustainable security.

The new CICA Non-Governmental Forum was also proposed by Xi, as a means to increase the influence of the security-focused CICA.

The forum will gather more than 200 representatives from CICA member states and observer states, including former politicians, think tank scholars, senior journalists and envoys from foreign embassies in China.

Chen Yuan, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, will chair the forum, Wei said.

The meeting is hosted by the CPIFA, and jointly organized by the Beijing Municipal Government and the Foreign Ministry.

Established in 1992, the CICA has 26 member states. China has its rotating chairmanship for the 2014-2016 period. Endi
