Senior Chinese security officialMeng Jianzhu highlighted online petitions during his visit to StateBureau for Letters and Calls Thursday.
Meng, head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said petition system is an important channel forthe CPC and government to understand the public's concerns and keep close ties to the people.
He urged officials to establish asound online petition system to save the public trouble when theymake their complaints. Complaints forwarded by petition bureausshould be handled properly and in time, Meng said.
Online petitioning should be moreopen, transparent and efficient, so as to decrease the cost forpetitioners.
The bureau started receivingpetitions submitted via the Internet on July 1, 2013, atwww.gjxfj.gov.cn/wsxf. People can lodge complaints when theirrights are infringed upon as a result of an abuse of power byauthorities, enterprises, and public institutions.
China's petitioning system datesback to the early 1950s and has played a major role in public supervision over Party and state organs. Endi
