Chinese holiday tourism enthusiasm continues

China's tourism market remained exuberant Tuesday as tourist attractions received large ticket revenues during the first six days of the week-long National Day holiday.

Ticket receipts at major attractions stood at 159.7 million yuan (25.11 million U.S. dollars) Tuesday, down 13 million yuan from the same period last year, said the China National Tourism Administration, which collected the data from 125 tourist sites across the country.

These tourist attractions received 3.38 million visitors Tuesday, slightly down from the 3.6 million registered at the same period last year due to Typhoon Mujigae, which has left 15 people dead or missing in south China since its landing Sunday and brought continuous storms there.

The National Day holiday from Oct. 1 to 7 has become an annual tourism event for Chinese people, who are increasingly well-off and willing to spend more on leisure and entertainment.

Self-driving travel was becoming even popular, with 11.5 percent more vehicles running on the road during the holiday this year when compared with the same period last year, transport authorities said. Endi
