China hopes the second Vienna meeting on the Syria crisis will offer solutions, a spokesman said on Friday.

The Vienna talks, which include representatives of 17 countries and other international bodies, will kick off a new round of negotiations this Saturday.

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Li Baodong will attend the meeting, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said at a regular press briefing.

"China hopes this meeting can cover important issues such as discussing political solutions, coordinating anti-terror operations, examining and distinguishing terrorists, and strengthening humanitarian assistance," Hong said, calling for a quick end to the Syrian crisis and a life free of fear and turbulence for the Syrian people.

Underscoring the UN mediation efforts, China has always maintained that the Syrian crisis must be resolved through political means, and the Syrian people must have a say in the future of their nation, according to the Foreign Ministry.

The first Vienna meeting, held on Oct. 30, saw the five permanent members of the UN security Council discuss political solutions to the crisis with representatives from countries in the region. Endi
