Cuban President Raul Castro held talks Monday with the visiting emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, and chaired the signing of several economic collaboration agreements, Cuban official media reported.

According to the documents, a visa-free policy will apply to diplomats, specialists and employees of the service industry traveling to each other's country, benefiting cooperation in various fields, the state-run news agency Prensa Latina reported.

In addition, a memorandum of understanding ratified the willingness of Qatar to invest in the Caribbean island.

Sheikh Al-Thani arrived in Cuba on Sunday for a 48-hour official visit, after which he will also travel to Mexico and Venezuela, aiming at boosting his country's economic ties with Latin America.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Qatar in 1989, the two countries have maintained cooperation in various areas, especially the health sector, with the presence of 473 medical specialists from the island in the Arab country. Endi
