World Bank grants Morocco $200 mln loan

The World Bank granted Morocco on Wednesday a loan of 200 million U.S. dollars to finance a Transparency and Accountability Development Policy program.

The program is intended to strengthen mechanism promoting transparency and accountability in the management of public resources and to support legal reforms in line with the new Moroccan Constitution, said Mohammed Boussaid, the Moroccan minister of economy and finance.

These reforms will contribute to implementing the new constitutional rights and governance principles, which are based on greater public accountability, transparency, and participation, the minister added.

He added that these reforms are expected to have a positive effect on the efficacy of the public sector in delivering services.

The African country is going through a carefully managed political transition, which aims to create a more representative politics in order to calm popular agitation for change since the 2011 uprisings. Endit
