The government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region plans to set up an exhibition area for comic statues in Golden Bauhinia Square, a popular tourist spot in Hong Kong.

Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So told the media Friday that more than 20 cartoon and comic statues will be showcased at the area.

He said the move is to enhance the public's understanding of the culture of comics and animation, and to boost tourism.

So stressed that Hong Kong must create a multicultural and diversified tourism portfolio to attract visitors from around the world.

"We need a good mix of tourists from different source markets to come to Hong Kong. We cannot simply rely on one single market, and therefore we tailor make our product to meet the needs of the market," he said.

So also noted that the government will introduce a number of measures and activities to attract visitors, such as holding light shows in historic buildings. Endit
