Air pollution was reported in 180 of 338 Chinese cities at prefecture level or above on Friday, with 42 of them, including Beijing and Tianjin, categorized as "heavily polluted," the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) announced on Saturday.

The most affected cities are mainly located in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and northwest China.

Beijing was among the hardest hit, with an average PM2.5 density of 315micrograms per cubic meter.

The MEP predicted the smog will ease on Saturday and disappear by Monday thanks to the arrival of a cold front. Endi
