An Australian woman desperate to look good has been caught red handed for stealing designer clothes in a lavish suburb in Sydney, Australia.

New South Police (NSW) said in a statement Friday that the 56-year-old woman will face court the same day for several shoplifting charges on designer outfits allegedly stolen from two separate retail stores at Paddington.

The woman had allegedly stolen the clothes on Aug. 11 this year with the first being a "lavish" brand lace skirt valued at 1,100 U.S. dollars at the first store while a black "Chanel" brand dress with pearls around the neck, arms and pockets valued at more than 1,500 U.S. dollars from the second store.

Police said on both occasions the stolen clothes were concealed under a jacket or coat in attempt to smuggle the goods out from the stores.

The woman was arrested by officers from Rose Bay Local Area Command with the assistance from the Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS) on Thursday after a search warrant was executed on her unit in Concord where the stolen clothes as well as cannabis were located.

The woman has since been arrested and taken to Burwood Police Station where she was charged with six counts of shoplifting and possession of a prohibited drug.

She has been refused bail and will appear at Burwood Local Court to face the charges on Friday. Enditem
