China is willing to strengthen cooperation with parties concerned in coping with climate change to ensure the implementation of the Paris Agreement, said a Foreign Ministry spokesperson in Beijing on Monday.

Geng Shuang made the remarks while responding to a question regarding the Paris Agreement, which will enter into force on Nov. 4, 2016.

"The implementation of the agreement will be a new start for global efforts in addressing climate change, and offers guidance for a new stage of green and low-carbon development," Geng said at a routine press briefing.

Considering the Paris Agreement as an example for global cooperation in addressing global challenges, Geng said it served as an important reference for global efforts in addressing other problems.

China recently deposited its ratification of the Paris Agreement with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, together with the United States. Geng said it laid important foundation for early enforcement of the climate pact.

China, as a responsible major developing country, has made a positive contribution to ensure the implementation of the Paris Agreement at an early date, Geng said.

He added that the country will continue to facilitate follow-up negotiations on the Agreement, and to boost green, low-carbon and sustainable development in the world.

The Paris Agreement was adopted in December 2015. It is the third international document on addressing climate change, following the 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the 1997 Kyoto Protocol. Endi
