China hopes relevant countries will abide by the one-China policy and cautiously deal with Tibet-related issues, so as to ensure the healthy development of bilateral relations, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Tuesday.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said at a daily press briefing that China is firmly opposed to any forms of contact between officials of any country and the 14th Dalai Lama.

China's resolve to hold this position is unwavering and beyond doubt, Lu said.

He said China had taken note of a joint statement issued by the Czech president, prime minister and two parliamentary speakers, which emphasized that the EU nation respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China, recognizes Tibet as a part of China and that the individual behavior of some Czech politicians does not represent a change of the Czech Republic's official policy.

Slovak politicians were also keen to make it clear their country's position had not changed, after Slovak President Andrej Kiska's recent meeting with the Dalai Lama.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico criticised Kiska.

"Kiska's move has clearly damaged Slovak-Chinese relations," Fico said.

Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak sent, via the Chinese Ambassador, a letter to his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, which said that the Slovak president, government and all Slovak officials fully respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China and subscribe to the one-China policy.

Lajcak, on behalf of the Slovak government, also solemnly declared that the current Slovak administration had never and would not have any official contact with the so-called "Tibetan government-in-exile" or the "Tibetan parliament-in-exile."

Lu said China values such pledges and hopes that relevant countries would match their words with deeds, abide by the one-China policy, fully understand and respect China's core interests and major concerns, and cautiously deal with Tibet-related issues, to ensure healthy and stable development of bilateral relations.
