China hopes the open ministerial meeting on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, currently being held by the UN Security Council, will send a positive and balanced message to the outside world.

"If the meeting simply focuses on enhancing sanctions and building up pressure, it will lose a rare opportunity, cause more confrontations between relevant parties, and hamper efforts for talks," spokesperson Geng Shuang said Friday at a daily press briefing.

Geng said that China stood ready to join the discussions and exchange opinions to jointly find a solution to the issue.

Participants of the meeting include Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres. Endi
