BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese academics have stressed the importance of improving communication with foreign experts in environmental legislation, according to a recent seminar.

Lyu Zhongmei, heading environmental resources research at the China Law Society, said that China offered good opportunities for environmental-protection legislation as it was making constant ecological improvements.

"The legal community should further strengthen research in foreign environmental legislation modes, including specific laws, codes, and comprehensive legislation," said Zhang Zitai, professor with Fudan University law school.

Zhang said pollution legislation could be a starting point for the codification of envirnommental laws.

Liu Hongyan, a researcher with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Institute of Law, said that more foreign codes on environmental protection should be translated and integrated with the situation in China. Enditem
