ANKARA -- Turkey will carry out a military operation in Syria's northern border region of Afrin to "remove the terrorist presence" there, Turkish Defense Minister Nurettin Canikli said Friday.

Speaking on local news channel A Haber, Canikli said "it will happen," referring to the upcoming military operation against the People's Protection Units (YPG), which is considered as the Syrian affiliates of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) by Ankara. (Turkey-Syria-Military Operation)

TRIPOLI -- UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) along with United Nations Development Program (UNDP) held a three-day workshop with dozens of Libyan mediators and discussed mediation efforts and challenges, the mission said in a statement on Friday.

"The UNSMIL and the UNDP this week gathered over 60 local mediators to share experiences in facilitating peace and cease-fire agreements," said the statement. (Libya-UN)

BEIRUT -- Lebanese President Michel Aoun said on Friday that Israel's plan to build a wall along its border with Lebanon will undermine efforts by the peacekeeping mission and the Lebanese army.
