CHANGCHUN, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Local authorities in northeast China's Jilin Province have released 430,000 salmon fry into the Tumenjiang River on the border with Russia and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

The fry are expected to migrate into the Sea of Japan and then to the northern Pacific before returning to the river in three to four years to spawn.

Years of releass of the salmon fry and other fish species have helped to curb the shrinking of fish stocks in the border river.

Between 2010 and 2017, fishery authorities in Jilin released 5.3 million salmon fry and a large amount of other species into the river.

More releases are expected this year. Enditem
