CHENGDU, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- China will produce over 6.5 million tonnes of pickles, worth more than 50 billion yuan (about 7.2 billion U.S. dollars), by the end of 2018, said the organizer of a pickle expo that opened in southwest China's Sichuan Province Tuesday.
Over 300 enterprises home and abroad, including pickle producers from the Republic of Korea, Japan, Russia, Indonesia, and Thailand, attended the four-day event to showcase their products, according to the organizing committee of the tenth China Pickles Food International Expo, held in the city of Meishan.
"The pickle has become Sichuan's most characteristic agricultural industry. Our products have been exported to over 100 countries and regions," said Li Yunze, vice governor of Sichuan Province.
In 2017, Sichuan produced around 3.9 million tonnes of pickles, accounting for over 60 percent of the country's total output.
Pickles are important ingredients in many of Sichuan's signature dishes, such as fish with pickled mustard greens. Enditem
