1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close higher Tuesday

BEIJING, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.42 percent at 2,665.96 points and the Shenzhen Component Index closing 0.19 percent higher at 7,953.72 points.

The combined turnover on the two bourses stood at 330.2 billion yuan (about 47.89 billion U.S. dollars), down from 425 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Most shares gained, with gainers outnumbering losers 994 to 346 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,454 to 561 on the Shenzhen bourse.

The gas and water supply sectors gained the most. Xinjiang Haoyuan Natural Gas gained 7.94 percent to close at 12.51 yuan per share, while Jinhong Holding Group rose by the daily limit of 10 percent to close at 7.34 yuan per share.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.43 percent to close at 1,378.75 points Tuesday. Enditem
