RIYADH -- The 39th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit kicked off on Sunday in the Saudi capital of Riyadh.

KHARTOUM -- A helicopter carrying a government delegation in eastern Sudan crashed on Sunday, killing a state governor and other officials, Sudan's Ashorooq net reported.

The helicopter crashed and burned in the morning in the border area between Sudan and Ethiopia, which resulted in the death of Gadaref State Governor Merghani Saleh and five other officials, including Minister of Production Omer Mohamed Ibrahim, the report said. (Sudan-Plane Crash)

DAMASCUS -- Syria's Deputy Foreign Minister, Faisal Mekdad, on Sunday urged for condemnation of the "crimes" of the U.S.-led coalition in Syria, according to state news agency SANA.
