American film "Aquaman" leads Chinese box office

BEIJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Newly released American film "Aquaman" dominated the Chinese mainland box office in the week ending Dec. 9, according to China Film News.

The film, starring Jason Momoa who acted as Khal Drogo in the popular TV series "Game of Thrones," has raked in more than 650 million yuan (94.3 million U.S. dollars) since hitting Chinese screens on Dec. 7.

Second place went to Chinese comedy "A Cool Fish," which received the highest degree of satisfaction by Chinese moviegoers in a recent survey, has taken in over 744 million yuan at the box office since its release on Nov. 16.

American sci-fi "Venom" came in third, which topped the list in the first week following its premiere on the Chinese mainland on Nov. 9, earned around 43 million yuan last week and has accumulated nearly 1.85 billion yuan.

Animated comedy "Ralph Breaks the Internet," the follow-up to "Wreck-It Ralph," took fourth place. It has earned more than 265 million yuan since hitting Chinese cinemas on Nov. 23.

Rounding out the top five was the comedy "Johnny English Strikes Again," which stars well-known British comedian Rowan Atkinson. It has generated 168.2 million yuan since its release on the Chinese mainland on Nov. 23. Enditem
