CAIRO -- Naval units from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Djibouti, Yemen and Sudan started on Tuesday joint naval drills in the Red Sea, the armed forces reported on its website.

The exercises, dubbed the "Red Wave-1" drills, included implementation of collective tasks, communication under water, supply ships with fuel, and means of protecting navel units while crossing dangerous areas, the statement added. (Egypt-Navy-Drills)

TEHRAN -- Iran's non-oil foreign trade value stood at 4.93 billion U.S. dollars during the one-month period ending on Dec. 21, Eghtesadonline news website reported on Tuesday.

TEHRAN, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- Iran will launch the third phase of the Persian Gulf Star Refinery in the coming days to make a "big leap" in gasoline production, Press TV reported on Tuesday.

Gasoline production capacity at the refinery in southern port city of Bandar Abbas will increase by 35 million liters per day by inaugurating the project, the report said. (Iran-Gasoline)

DAMASCUS -- Intense battles raged Tuesday between the Turkey-backed rebels and the al-Qaida-linked militants in the rebel-controlled areas in the western countryside of Aleppo province in northern Syria, a war monitor reported.

The Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the umbrella group of the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front, attacked areas under the control of the Turkey-backed National Liberation Front in the western countryside of Aleppo, capturing two towns in that area, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
