1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close higher Monday

BEIJING, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese major stock indices ended higher on Monday, with stocks related to aircraft manufacturing industry leading the gain.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index gained 0.72 percent to 2,533.09 points while the Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.58 percent higher at 7,400.2 points.

The combined turnover of stocks in the two indices stood at 347.3 billion yuan (about 50.7 billion U.S. dollars), picking up from 322 billion yuan last Friday.

Most shares gained and shares of aircraft manufacturing were among the strongest gainers, with the sub-index climbing 4.04 percent. The Chengdu based Aecc Aero Science and Technology Co., Ltd. surged 9.97 percent to 13.35 yuan per share.

Bucking the upward trend, the financial sector, especially insurers, saw heavy loss Monday. New China Life Insurance Company Ltd., declined 6.72 percent to close at 40.51 yuan per share. China Pacific Insurance (Group) Co., Ltd., a major insurer in China, fell 2.14 percent to 28.36 yuan per share.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, was up 1.84 percent to close at 1,268.06 points Monday. Enditem
