1st LD: 1 killed, 1 injured, 3 missing in oil tanker blaze off Hong Kong's Lamma Island

HONG KONG, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- At least one person was killed, another injured and three were missing as an oil tanker caught fire Tuesday off Hong Kong's Lamma Island.

The oil tanker, carrying oil and chemicals and 25 people, caught fire before noon in sea about one nautical mile (about 1.85 km) off the island in the south of Hong Kong.

Emergency crews from the Fire Service Department and the Marine Region of the Hong Kong Police Force rushed to the scene and rescued about 20 people from sea.

One person was killed and another got burned in the blaze, the police told Xinhua.

Three people were still missing and the rescuers were searching for them.

Initial investigation showed that the ship was registered in Vietnam. The police are looking into the reason of the fire. Enditem
