1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close lower Thursday

BEIJING, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.36 percent at 2,535.10, and the Shenzhen Component Index closing 0.26 percent lower at 7,428.61.

The combined turnover of stocks on the two indices stood at 313.36 billion yuan (about 45.97 billion U.S. dollars), down from 379.3 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Most shares lost, with losers outnumbering gainers 854 to 499 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,238 to 772 on the Shenzhen bourse.

The ceramic industry and medical device industry were biggest losers. Guangdong Songfa Ceramics declined 2.11 percent to close at 17.18 yuan per share, while Lepu Medical Technology (Beijing) lost 3.80 percent to close at 18.47 yuan per share.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board, lost 0.28 percent to close at 1,258.99. Enditem
