BEIJING, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher Tuesday, boosted by liquor-making and securities sectors.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went up 1.36 percent, at 2,570.34 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.86 percent higher at 7,547.35 points.
The combined turnover of stocks in the two indices rose to 319.6 billion yuan (47.3 billion U.S. dollars) from 283.16 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Most shares gained, with gainers outnumbering losers 1,142 to 221 on the Shanghai bourse, and 1,689 to 348 on the Shenzhen bourse.
Shares of liquor-making, securities, foods, and electronic information gained, while the coal sector suffered losses.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.63 percent to close at 1,266.27 points Tuesday. Enditem
