BEIJING, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- China's southern province of Guangdong, known for its culinary style both at home and abroad, has vowed further efforts to promote Cantonese cuisine training with an aim to boost employment, the China Daily reported Friday.

Guangdong will invest more than 20.8 billion yuan (3.06 billion U.S. dollars) in helping unemployed people find jobs, with priority given to a program of training chefs in Cantonese cuisine, the newspaper said, citing a local official statement.

Officials believe that in addition to stabilizing the province's job market, the training of more Cantonese chefs will promote the food style and south China culture across the country and the world.

Trained chefs are encouraged to start their own businesses, the report said, noting that Cantonese chefs are now working in many hotels and restaurants.

Traditional Cantonese cuisine, including roast goose, boiled sliced chicken and steamed fish, are among major attractions for tourists from outside the province. Enditem
