BEIRUT -- The deputy speaker of Lebanon's Parliament said Saturday that the United States is exerting great pressure on Lebanon to stop it from taking part in Syria's reconstruction.

"Lebanon's participation in Syria's reconstruction can solve the country's economic problems, but the United States is exerting pressure to stop it," Elie Ferzli was quoted as saying by Elnashra, an online independent newspaper. (Lebanon-US-Syria's Reconstruction)

DAMASCUS -- At least 20 Islamic State (IS) militants were killed in eastern Syria on Saturday by Iraqi airstrikes and shellings from pro-government fighters, a war monitor group reported.

The Iraqi warplanes and the pro-Syrian government fighters targeted the last IS-held pocket on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River in eastern Syria, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. (Syria-IS-Iraqi Airstrikes)

TUNIS -- Two days after the first general strike in the public service, the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT) on Saturday declared that a second one would be held on Feb. 20-21.
