GUANGZHOU, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Police in the southern Chinese metropolis of Shenzhen have arrested two suspects from Hong Kong and seized over 1.2 tonnes of precursor chemicals in a cross-border drug trafficking case.

Last November, police found a group from Hong Kong suspected of committing drug crimes in Shenzhen, and then set up a special team to investigate the case, the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department said Tuesday.

The team found the gang's warehouse located in an industrial park in Longhua District, and collected evidence about the gang's organization structure, members and their activity routines.

On Dec. 6, Shenzhen police raided the warehouse, capturing a suspect surnamed Lo and seizing 710 kilograms of precursor chemicals hidden in 390 barbell plates. Another suspect surnamed Lee was arrested in the city's Huanggang Port. They are both from Hong Kong, according to police.

After the operation, police continued to track the sources of the precursor chemicals. On Dec. 20, they found another warehouse of the gang in the city of Zhongshan, Guangdong Province, seizing 500 kilograms of precursor chemicals.

In 2018, Guangdong captured more than 18,000 suspects and seized over 10 tonnes of drugs in 14,000 drug cases. Enditem
