Taiwan's industrial production index down in December

TAIPEI, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan's industrial production index dropped 1.22 percent year-on-year to 110.31 in December, according to the island's economic affairs authority on Wednesday.

The sub-index for the manufacturing sector, which accounted for more than 90 percent of the industrial production, fell 1.45 percent year-on-year to 111.42 in December.

The production index for electronic components, the most heavily weighted within the manufacturing sector, edged down 2.37 percent to 117.83.

In the whole year, the industrial production index went up 3.65 percent year on year, with the manufacturing sub-index up 3.92 percent.

Meanwhile, Taiwan's wholesale revenue fell 4.1 percent year-on-year in December to 850.1 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 27.5 billion U.S. dollars).

Retail revenue edged up 1.9 percent to 387.2 billion new Taiwan dollars in December, while the catering sector jumped 6.2 percent to 42.8 billion new Taiwan dollars. Enditem
