TUNIS, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic Patriotic Party (PPD) was established on Wednesday, increasing the number of political parties in Tunisia to 215, according to a government statement.
The PPD, founded by politician Moez Khatmi, was established under the provisions of Legislative Decree No. 2011-87 on the organization of parties, said the department in charge of the relationship with constitutional bodies, civil society and human rights.
The current dominating political alliance is Nidaa Tounes, or Tunisia's Call, which was founded in 2012, mainly in reaction to the victory of Islamists after the revolution. The alliance is led by incumbent President Beji Caid Essebsi. Enditem
