ANKARA -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday departed for Moscow to meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, amid the U.S. troops' withdrawal from Syria.

During Erdogan's one-day working visit, the two leaders will exchange views on regional and international issues, particularly Syria, as well as bilateral relations between the two countries, according to state-run Anadolu Agency. (Turkey-Russia)

DAMASCUS -- At least three rebels were killed Wednesday when an explosion occurred in the rebel-held northern city of Afrin, Kurdish activists reported.

The explosion took place near a cultural center, which is used as a base for the Turkey-backed rebels in the center part of Afrin, according to the report.

BAGHDAD -- At least a policeman was killed and three others wounded in a suicide car bomb attack in Iraq's northern province of Kirkuk on Wednesday, a provincial police source said.

The attack took place in the afternoon when a suicide bomber drove his explosive-laden car into a federal police checkpoint near the town of al-Riyadh in the south of the provincial capital Kirkuk, some 250 km north of the national capital Baghdad, Saad al-Obeidi told Xinhua. SANAA -- The UN Special Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths and Chair of the Redeployment Coordination Committee Patrick Cammaert left the rebel-held capital Sanaa on Wednesday, the Houthi rebels said in a statement.

Griffiths arrived in Sanaa on Monday amid attempts to break a stalemate in the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah, while Cammaert had been in Hodeidah since late December to oversee the implementation of the cease-fire and military withdrawal of the Yemeni rival parties in line with a peace deal reached in Stockholm last month. DOHA -- Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met on Wednesday with visiting Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir over the current protests in Sudan, state Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
