BAGHDAD -- Spanish King Felipe VI arrived Wednesday in a surprise visit to the Iraqi capital Baghdad and met with Iraqi President Barham Salih, the official television reported.

Salih received the Spanish king at his office in the Green Zone in central Baghdad and they discussed bilateral ties, state-run Iraqiya channel said. (Spain-Iraq)

DAMASCUS -- At least eight civilians were killed as a result of a U.S.-led airstrike on the Islamic State (IS)-held area in eastern Syria, state news agency SANA reported on Wednesday.

The overnight airstrike targeted the outskirts of the Baghuz town in the eastern countryside of Deir al-Zour province, where remnants of IS militants are located. (Syria-U.S.-Airstrike)

CAIRO -- An Egyptian court sentenced on Wednesday 17 people to three years in prison over forming an illegal group and committing terrorist activities, official MENA news agency reported.

SANAA -- At least 20 Houthi rebels were killed overnight in Saudi-led airstrikes in Yemen's northwestern province of Hajjah, pro-government media reported Wednesday.

According to al-Masdar Online, the airstrikes targeted Houthi positions in Kashir district, a disputed area between the rebels and tribesmen loyal to the Saudi-backed government. (Yemen-Hajjah-Saudi Airstrikes) Enditem
