1st LD-Writethru: 5.2-magnitude quake hits Xinjiang, no casualties

BEIJING, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- A 5.2-magnitude earthquake jolted Tacheng city in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region at 5:54 a.m. Saturday (Beijing Time), according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

The epicenter was monitored at 46.73 degrees north latitude and 83.34 degrees east longitude. The quake struck at a depth of 16 km, the CENC said in a statement.

Multiple homes in the Kizbeyit village, about 30 kilometers from the epicenter Qaxa Township, were damaged, the Xinjiang branch of China Earthquake Administration said.

Though the quake was felt in several cities, no casualties have been reported, it said.

Tacheng City sent firefighters to check houses on herding grounds for damages. Enditem
