RIYADH, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabia collected 500,000 rials (133,308 U.S. dollars) in fines for violations committed against animal rights, state-owned Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported Tuesday.
The violations were discovered by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture over unspecified period of time, SPA said.
The violations included unlicensed practice of veterinary medicine, trading of sick animals and torturing cats by releasing dogs against them.
Ali al-Dweirij, director of veterinarian health and control department, said the ministry will punish the violators and call for public cooperation in reporting such offenses. Enditem
