BEIJING, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese courts solved 9,271 cases concerning crimes of illegal fundraising last year, up 8.37 percent year on year, according to the Supreme People's Court (SPC).

Over 28,000 such cases had been solved from 2015 to 2018, the SPC said.

Chinese courts have dealt with such cases by severe punishment, with efforts made to deprive the criminals of their financial ability to commit the crimes again, the SPC said.

Using the Internet as a tool has been a major feature of illegal fundraising crimes in recent years, the SPC said, noting that over 20 percent of such cases in 2017 used the Internet to advertise or raise funds.

The SPC said it would step up the fight against illegal fundraising to forestall and defuse major risks. Enditem
