BEIJING, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- The action of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) against political parties and people who are supportive of China's national reunification, has exposed its nature of harming the common interests of the people across the Strait and defying the historical trend, a spokesperson said Friday.

An Fengshan, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks when answering a question on the DPP's recent warning against Taiwan people going to the mainland for democratic consultations.

Democratic consultation goes in line with the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations as well as the will of the compatriots across the Strait and the tides of the times, according to An.

"We cordially welcome the political parties and representatives from all walks of life in Taiwan to take part in the consultations and boost the exchange with their advice and suggestions," he said. Enditem
