CHENGDU, March 7 (Xinhua) -- PetroChina Southwest Oil and Gasfield Company, a CNPC affiliate, said a single test on a well to assess the ability to produce shale gas yielded over 1.37 million cubic meters of gas in a single day.

The well, located in Leida Village of Luzhou city, Sichuan Province, was used to assess the potential of shale gas production in the area 4,000 meters underground, the company said.

It is the first shale gas well to exceed the million cubic meter mark, the company said.

CNPC is a leading explorer of shale gas in China. Its main production base for shale gas is located in Yibin, Luzhou, Neijiang of Sichuan, and Zhaotong of Yunnan Province. The area produced three billion cubic meters of shale gas in 2017. Enditem
