DAMASCUS -- The U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Saturday the defeat of the Islamic State (IS) militant group in eastern Syria, the SDF spokesman said.

TEHRAN -- Heavy rains over the last three days have devastated the residential areas and infrastructures in northern Iran along the Caspian Sea, engulfing dozens of cities and villages.
