CAIRO -- An Egyptian court issued on Saturday preliminary death sentences against seven defendants involved in attacking a hotel in Giza near the capital Cairo in 2016, official MENA news agency reported.
The defendants are among 26 others who are accused of leading an outlawed group, supplying it with firearms and money as well as attacking the hotel, MENA said. (Egypt-Death Sentences)

CAIRO -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov urged on Saturday a peaceful settlement in war-torn Libya and efforts of the UN Security Council (UNSC) to launch dialogues between Libyan rival parties.
Lavrov made the remarks at a joint press conference with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry in Cairo, where they discussed bilateral ties and regional issues of mutual concern. (Russia-Egypt-Libya)

BAGHDAD -- More than 200 families in two villages were evacuated on Saturday after the serious flooding caused by the rising water level of the Diyala River in eastern Iraq, an official said.
The families were evacuated from the villages of Kharnabat and Huweder in the north of Baquba, provincial capital of Diyala Province, after the water level reached the edges of the two villages, Abdullah al-Haiyaly, mayor of Baquba, told Xinhua. (Iraq-Flooding-Evacuation) Enditem
