The drama tells the stories of Beijingers living in a hutong (Beijing's traditional alley) named "Xiaojing" from the late 1940s to the 1970s. The play recreates the daily language and social customs of old Beijing.
-- China-produced opera "Un Ballo in Maschera," NCPA, 7 p.m., Beijing
Produced by the NCPA and directed by internationally known director Hugo De Ana, the performance recreates scenes from the Swedish court and the city of Stockholm during the reign of King Gustav III in the 18th century.
The Giuseppe Verdi opera tells the tragic story of the King, who falls in love with his friend's wife and is killed.
-- Sharing a Common Future - Exhibition of Treasures from National Museums along the Silk Road, National Museum of China, Beijing
Sponsored by the national museums of China and 12 other countries, the exhibition features selected cultural relics that display the diversity of civilizations along the land and maritime Silk Roads.
-- Broadway musical "School of Rock," Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center, 2:30 p.m. & 7:30 p.m.
Based on the Hollywood film of the same name, the musical tells a story of wannabe rock star Dewey Finn, who disguises himself as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. When he discovers his students' musical talent, he enlists his fifth graders to form a rock group and conquer the Battle of the Bands. Enditem
