JERUSALEM -- Israel has launched a plan to encourage entrepreneurship in the northern and southern peripheral regions at a cost of 180 million new shekels (50 million U.S. dollars), the Israel Innovation Authority (IIA) said Wednesday.

The plan aims to promote an innovation-oriented economy in the Israeli periphery by establishing hi-tech incubators, while the IIA will provide up to 1.5 million new shekels per year for each incubator. (Israel-Entrepreneurship)

ISTANBUL -- Turkey's top electoral board on Wednesday appointed Ekrem Imamoglu, candidate for the main opposition party, as the new mayor of Istanbul, the country's biggest city, local media reported.

KHARTOUM -- Sudan's transitional military council on Wednesday said that two brothers of former President Omar al-Bashir have been arrested and put in prison.

"Two brothers of the head of the former regime, including Abdalla and Al-Abbas, have been arrested. The search is underway for the rest who are hiding themselves," said Shams-Eddin Kabashi, spokesman of the military council, at a press conference in Khartoum. (Sudan-Military) Enditem
