1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares end lower Monday

BEIJING, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index ending at 3,215.04 points, down 1.7 percent.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.86 percent lower at 10,224.31 points.

Combined turnover of stocks in the two indices stood at 804.3 billion yuan (about 120 billion U.S. dollars), expanding from 720.4 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered gainers by 1,087 to 338 at the Shanghai bourse and 1,580 to 518 in Shenzhen.

Shares of pork producers were among the biggest gainers. Beijing Dabeinong Technology Group Co. saw its share price rise by the daily limit 10 percent to 7.55 yuan a share.

Hunan Fangsheng Pharmaceutical Co. led the losses to drop by the daily limit 10 percent, ending at 12.47 yuan per share.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, went down 1.07 percent to close at 1,697.51 points Monday. Enditem
