LANZHOU, April 25 (Xinhua) -- A forest fire broke out in the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Gannan in northwest China's Gansu Province Thursday, local authorities said.

The fire erupted at around 2 p.m. in Diebu County on the eastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

More than 200 firefighters and forestry staff were dispatched to the site.

Due to strong wind, as of 7:30 p.m., the fire was spreading upward and fire fighters had withdrawn to a safe area.

More Gansu firefighters are ready to be dispatched. Enditem
